The Lie We Bought—and the Truth That Set Me Free
Apr 16, 2025
Once upon a time, I believed in a lie. Not the kind you tell to get out of a speeding ticket, but the kind that whispers, "Do what you're supposed to, and happiness will follow."
So, I did what I was "supposed" to do. I climbed the corporate ladder, collected titles like Pokémon cards, and smiled through meetings that could've been emails. All the while, a little voice inside me kept asking, "Is this it?"
Turns out, that voice was onto something.
I realized I'd been living a story written by someone else—society, expectations, maybe even that well-meaning career counselor from high school. I'd traded my dreams for a steady paycheck and a 401(k), thinking that was the path to fulfillment.
But here's the kicker: the lie we believe becomes the life we live.
So, I decided to rewrite the story. I left the "shoulds" behind and started pursuing what truly mattered to me. It wasn't easy. There were moments of doubt, fear, and more than a few awkward conversations with relatives who couldn’t understand why I'd leave a "good job."
But every step toward authenticity felt like a breath of fresh air.
Now, I'm not here to tell you to quit your job and move to Bali (unless that's your thing). I'm here to remind you that it's okay to question the narrative. It’s okay to want more than just a corner office and a fancy title.
Because at the end of the day, success isn't about living up to someone else's expectations—it's about living in alignment with your own values and passions.
So, if you're feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or just plain bored, ask yourself: Whose story am I living?
And if the answer isn’t "mine," maybe it’s time to pick up the pen and start writing a new chapter.
If you need help putting pen to paper and rewriting your story—I'm not a ghostwriter. But I am a damn good life coach who knows a thing or two… and I'm ready when you are!
